Call Of Duty Ghosts: Invasion DLC

Activision has recently announced that the third lot of DLC (of a four part series) for Call Of Duty: Ghosts will be released first exclusively for Xbox Live on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One on the 3rd of June, coming to other platforms at an undisclosed later date.

The third massive DLC pack, titled Invasion, includes 4 new maps - each one distinctively different from the last, with exclusive killstreaks adding even more variation.

The first new map is called Departed, and is a medium-sized stage that will have players running and gunning in a Mexico-inspired rural town during the fabled Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. Players can expect colorful streets with vendor carts and abandoned stores offering ample cover during your time on gunning down opponents. The killstreak available to players on Departed is called “Death Mariachi” and will give players dual wield pistols that, when used to kill an enemy, will turn them into a temporary squad mate.

The second map, Pharaoh, is set in an ancient and abandoned archaeological site in one of Egypt’s secret palaces. Players will take part in close-quarter combat whilst trying to dodge collapsing monuments and urns containing flesh-eating scarabs. The killstreak available in Pharaoh is still a bit of a mystery, however we do know it includes the half-jackal/half-human protector of the dead, Anubis, who will handsomely reward players who obey him - presumably by shooting lots of things in the face.

Invasion’s third map is Mutiny, and will transport players to a remote Caribbean island that houses a sinister pirate hideout. Mutiny is a tricky map where speed and stealth are a necessity if players are planning on exploring its complicated pathways. If you manage to obtain the killstreak, you can expect two ghostly pirates to spawn and assist you in your efforts to send opponents to Davey Jones’ locker (get it?).

Finally, the fourth map available on the Invasion DLC pack is simply a fresh take on Modern Warfare 2’s Favela. However, a lot of time has gone by since we last saw it, and buildings that were previously under construction are now complete, while older buildings are now a crumbling hazard. Players must avoid the various dangers on offer whilst traversing from one building to the next via shoddy scaffolding that provides a number of different routes by which to navigate. Players who manage to achieve the killstreak on this map will be able to call down some heavy air support from the nearby Y-8 gunship with either a 105mm cannon, a 40mm auto-cannon or a 25mm mini-cannon. After Pirates, Egyptian death gods and Mexican sprits, it’s a slightly more conservative power but will doubtless be no less effective.

The so called cherry on top of this tasty multiplayer cake is the third Episode in the game’s Extinction Mode. Episode 3: Awakening will see you descending into a terrifying alien underworld in the hopes of striking at the fortress of the Ancestors - the alien race responsible for the Cryptid invasion. Armed with a series of new and flashy equipment, players must work together to penetrate a series of defensive barriers in order to reach the Ark and unlock the secret psychic powers of the Ancestors in preparation for the final showdown in Episode 4 (to be released a later stage).

The Invasion DLC will be available as an individual purchase, but is also included in the Call Of Duty: Ghosts season pass, which includes all four of the planned DLC packs due for release in 2014 (Onslaught, Devastation, Invasion and finally Nemesis).
