After much deliberation, Disney Interactive Studios decided to cancel Star Wars: Attack Squadrons after a closed beta testing period, which was received negatively by fans despite its strong premise of good old-fashioned Star Wars space combat..
The announcement on the formerly in-development game’s Facebook page is as follows:
We want to thank all of the fans who participated in the closed beta of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons.
After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences.
We truly appreciate the time you spent engaging in the beta.
The Disney free-to-play game was just announced in December of 2013 and allowed players to participate in 16-man dogfights while flying customized ships.
While this will come as disappointing news diehard Star Wars fans, take solace in the fact that DICE and EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront is still in development and will be released next summer.
