Today Sega announced a free-to-play mobile spin-off of its long-running tilt-action puzzle game series Super Monkey Ball.
But whereas other SMB games have challenged players to navigate a mazes of narrow walkways, this one tasks them with bouncing around pinball-like stages. Sega says the game takes cues from Pachinko (a popular, but socially maligned gambling pastime in Japan) but we can’t help but see a bit of Sonic Spinball‘s influence at work here.
There’s a story too: AiAi and pals will be working their way through 120 levels to defeat Professor Boscis. We’re not sure what the professor has done to attract such simian rage but we’re guessing it must be pretty bad if he’s got monkeys with supermoves after him. In any case we’ll find out this Summer when the game is released on iOS and Android devices. In the meantime, here’s some screens and a trailer. Try not to go bananas over them.
