Last month we brought you news of an action-adventure game set in the Lord of the Rings universe known as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The similarities between the Monolith developed title and the Assassin’s Creedgames was both obvious and immediately recognized. Today a trailer has been released that shows off the leveling and skills system, which look to give combat in Middle-earth a flavor of its own and - hopefully - an identity that doesn’t draw so many unfortunate comparisons to Ubisoft’s series - not that the Assassin’s Creed games are bad mind you.
Shadow of Mordor is the revenge story of Talion, a man who, along with his family, was killed. But Talion has the fortune of being bought back to life by the “Spirit of Vengeance”. Talion’s tools of vengeance are his sword Urfael, his bow Azkâr and his dagger Acharn (pronounced “Ackarn”). You can see them in action in the trailer below.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is out for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on October 7.
