UPDATE: Microsoft has released a video via the Xbox youtube channel explaining the move, which you can watch below.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Well, it’s finally happened. What Microsoft staunchly denied for so long is now a reality.
From June 3, you’ll be able to pick up an Xbox One without Kinect bundled. You can pre-order the new Kinect-less unit now.
The release is timed to coincide with E3, so Microsoft are clearly hoping to capitalize on any announcements planned to be made at their annual presentation.
The new SKU will be priced at $399.99/£349.99, as opposed to the console’s original price tag of $499.99/£429.99 - putting it head-to-head with Sony’s PlayStation 4.
The Xbox One’s retail performance has been somewhat spotty; while the system has “shipped” 5 million units to date, it’s sold considerably less. The PS4, meanwhile, has sold 7 million units.
However, it’s worth noting that the Xbox One is currently only available in 13 territories - and due to be released in a further 26 this year - as opposed to the PS4’s 53.
