Sega has announced the release date of Relic’s latest expansion for Company of Heroes 2, the Western Front Armies. The Western Front Armies is intended to release on 24 June. (almost 3 weeks after the 70th Anniversary of D-Day) Preorder bonuses include tank skins and new faceplates.
The latest expansion is aimed at taking the Company of Heroes series back to its roots in the conflict between the Americans and Germans in Western Europe. The Western Front Armies promises two new factions - the US Forces and the German OberKommando West on top of the original two (the Soviets and Ostheer) released with Company of Heroes 2. Factions will be interchangeable and will be able to fight the two opposing factions German or Allied factions in battle, so no Operation Unthinkables for the Soviets and Americans just yet.
Along with the announcement was released a trailer, effectively a repeat of the preview given to us when the Western Front Armies was announced in April. Amongst the units identifiable are US paratroopers, Panzer II Luchs, Shermans, of both the 76mm and 75mm varieties, a Jagdtiger, a P-47 Thunderbolt and a SturmTiger.
There is, however, great concern in the Company of Heroes 2 community over whether the release of these new factions may cause further imbalances to Company of Heroes 2, whose track record in relation to balance has so far been not too good. The community is worried that the now slowly improving balance of the current game maybe thrown completely awry by the inclusion of these new factions. Only time will tell.
