The 7th Guest returns

Ask adventure game fans of a certain age about some of their most cherished memories and they might tell you about the likes of Myst and The 7th Guest. The latter, a series of horror-themed puzzle games, may be unfamiliar to many younger gamers - but that’s about to change: developer Trilobyte games has made not one, but two announcements relating to The 7th Guest.

First off, they’re working on a new addition to the series: The 7th Guest 3: The Collector, has been announced for Mac, Windows PC, Linux and iOS devices. Although few details have been divulged, it has been revealed that the game is being worked on by an all-star assembly of people who’d worked on the two installments. Returning talent includes Robert Hirschboeck (who plays series villain Henry Stauf), Tommy Tallarico, David Wheeler, and John Fricker. Some might notice that series composer George Alistair Sanger (AKA “The Fatman”) is conspicuous by absence, but fear not - he’s consented to having his original music incorporated into the game.

Interestingly, while the game is being crowd-funded, it won’t be funded through Kickstarter. Trilobyte games is instead opting to use Crowdtilt Open. The developer has cited flexibility for meeting multiple goals as a motivation behind their choice of funding platform. One of those goals is funding the upcoming beta (a short game entitled The 7th Guest: The First Story) which requires the developer to hit a $65,000 target - a goal that they are already over one-third of the way towards completing.

The new game announcement was also made alongside news of a TV/film licensing agreement between Trilobyte Games and Angel Valley Media. For those that don’t know, Angel Valley Media were involved in the big-screen adaptations of Resident Evil.

Angel Valley Media President Matthew Lewis stated: “Bringing Henry Stauf and the rich universe of the series to life in film was inevitable. We’ll be working side-by-side with Trilobyte Games to give players a new look into Stauf’s world, with new storylines and characters tightly interwoven with the game series.”

Prospective backers should head on over to Trilobyte’s crowdhosting site. In the meantime, here are some screens and the crowd-funding pitch for the upcoming game that you might enjoy.
