Team 17, the developer-turned-publisher behind the fun-but-macabre classic Worms series has a new IP, and it’s available now via Steam’s Early Access program.
Take the sheep from Worms, cross them with the same basic mechanics from Psygnosis’ classic Lemmings, and you have Flockers - an A-to-B puzzle game with all the gore you would expect from an outfit which has dedicated close to 2 decades of its time forcing players to inflict increasing amount of misery on invertebrates.
Flockers comes with a big warning - there is a “generous helping of sinister foreboding and dark humor for good measure” that went into this game, and it is not fit for the haemophobes among you. This game has a lot of blood. Think Super Meat Boy levels of gore, and then add even more blood: Flockers absolutely revels in OTT levels of gore.
“Flockers invites you to step hoof into this sinister, steampunk inspired world as you navigate the hapless sheep through a plethora of dark, heinous puzzles in an attempt to save them from their impending doom”, says the press release - and based on our time with the game, we’re able to say that’s a pretty accurate description.
Oddly, we found ourselves craving strawberry jam after our hands-on time recently; our preview is due to arrive shortly.
Hmmm: strawberry jam.
The Early Access version of the game comes with 25 levels (with more to be released in due course), a level editor and Steam Workshop support which will enable you to share your machinations with your friends. Have you ever wanted to see if you can outwit your best friend, killing all their sheep in spectacularly gorey ways? Well now you can!
The Early Access edition also comes with a list of other features, though biggest selling point for most people will undoubtedly be the fact that you can get the game at it’s current discounted price, compared to the full price of the game at launch. Early adopters will also receive both a digital art-book and soundtrack, in case you ever want to hear yourself slaughter sheep while you’re out and about.
You monster.
We’ll be bringing you a preview of Flockers in the next few days - but if you want to stay ahead of the rest of the sheep, you can go get it now for only £11.99/$14.99/13,99 €.
