Central Virginia developer Zojoi and indie games partner Reverb Triple XP announced earlier today that Shadowgate - the reimagining of the Mac classic point-and-click dark fantasy adventure game – will be available late this summer for PC, Mac, IOS, and Android devices. The game is available to pre-order now for PC and Mac directly from the Shadowgate website.
Zojoi enjoys input from Karl Roelofs and Dave Marsh - the original creators behind the classic Shadowgate, who have returned to update the fantasy adventure sage with today’s advanced technological and graphical capabilities. Over the last 30 years the original Shadowgate gained in popularity on PC, Mac, Nintendo NES, Gameboy Color, and the Nintendo 64 systems. It’s a bona fide classic then - though we’d recommend steering clear of the Game Boy Color iteration.
With such long lasting support for the series, Zojoi took to Kickstarter in 2012 to bring Shadowgate to a new generation of players.
Karl Roelof of Zojoi explains his return to Shadowgate and the last few years of the Kickstarter process: “Dave and I are incredibly thrilled to be returning to Castle Shadowgate after all these years. When we created the MacVenture series, we knew we had something special on our hands - the initial response from gamers around the world was overwhelming! Shadowgate has remained near and dear to not only our hearts but to those who remember the haunting original, greatly evidenced by the support our Kickstarter campaign generated. The past few years we have been hard at work rebuilding and updating the Shadowgate experience and cannot wait to inspire, challenge, and terrify an entire new generation of players.”
The reboot of Shadowgate will feature hand-painted detailed environments, as well as new “mind-bending” puzzles and inertactive objects. Even though Shadowgate is a full re-imagining, there will be plenty of nods to the original for series veterans.
Development partner Reverb Triple XP was brought on board to help Zojoi bring their vision of Shadowgate to life. “We see the tremendous potential in delivering Shadowgate to today’s gamer and we are working side-by-side with Zojoi to create customized programs for this unique game,” said Tracie Snitker - the president of Reverb Triple XP.
Finally, full details of pre-orders, pricing, beta testing and other Shadowgate extras can be found directly from the Shadowgate website. With no official release date yet announced, you’ll need to whet your appetite by enjoying this new trailer.
