Amazing Spider-man 2 Cut from Xbox One?

When The Amazing Spider-man 2 launches on April 29th (May 2nd for Europe), Xbox One gamers might be in for a rude shock. Activision has quietly set aside the game’s port to Microsoft’s next-gen console, even going so far as to erase the Xbox One box art from the official site.

The news, so far, doesn’t look good. When MCV broke the story earlier today, they quoted a release schedule from Activision: “We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One… When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD.”

Eurogamer did some digging, and received the following from the publisher in an official statement: “We are working with Microsoft in an effort to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game on Xbox One. Currently, the game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and the PC on 2nd May, 2014 as previously announced.”

The news seems strange, particularly given Activision’s stature in the games publishing industry. Given the prolific nature of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise as a whole, it appears odd for Activision to cut the Xbox One port so close to the general release date.

Microsoft’s Xbox One has seen a number of headlining setbacks since its announcement. After the 2013 holiday rush, the International Business Times reported that sales of the PS4 had trumped the Xbox One in nearly every industry report. Whatever the cause of Activision’s decision, it doesn’t appear to be good news for Microsoft.
