While BioWare teased the latest Dragon Age: Inquisition character Vivienne last week, a formal blog post and character bio gives a bit more background into the character, and also includes a guide on how to cosplay as the brand-new character.
The “Lady of Iron,” as BioWare calls her, is the official enchanter of the Imperial court and a leader and figurehead among mages. Vivienne is a cunning woman who’s skilled at politics and has a savy sense of realpolitik, not allowing anyone to stand in her way. Despite being a mage, she refuses to join a rebellion with other mages due to their perceived recklessness, and fights to bring balance back to the world gone mad.
This latest information comes right on the heels of the screenshots released of the Dwarven adventurer Varric fighting a giant dragon, which shows off the power of the new Frostbite 3 engine.
BioWare’s character kit for Vivienne, which can be seen below, breaks down Vivienne’s costume for any interested cosplayers hoping to recreate Vivienne’s fashion sense - a fashion sense that is very Orlesian and not very Ferelden, as Vivienne dresses neither for comfort nor for purpose.
“Leave the stained tunics and rough cloaks to the commoners and their mud farms-a proper Orlesian climbs mountains in her evening gown, standing taller at the summit in her formidable high-heeled shoes,” her character kit reads. Should she wear armor, she believes it should be hidden under fine fabrics, “for steel alone will not protect you from the barbed tongues of Orlais.”
BioWare will release more details about Vivienne this coming Wednesday, so check back then for more information about the character. Each month BioWare plans to provide a look into one of the new followers that the players will meet in the journey in Dragon Age: Inquisition, which launches this fall.
