Final Fantasy XIV: Patch 2.2 details released.

Square Enix has released a batch of new screenshots and a trailer for Patch 2.2 of their (now) popular MMO, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Through the Maelstrom, as the update is known, adds in a new Raid, new Hard Mode Dungeons, and brand new Dungeons to test players’ abilities. No firm release date has been given, but a tentative window has been set for the end of this month.

Final Fantasy XIV has had something of a rough ride. The original game was released in a less-than-perfect condition back in 2010 and came under heavy criticism for a plethora of flaws, missing content and performance issues. Due to the negative feedback, Square took the game back to the drawing board, before re-releasing it last year with the A Realm Reborn moniker. Ostensibly a ground-up reworking of the entire game, the MMO now sports a different game engine, an entirely redesigned world and game mechanics. Thankfully for them, the redesign seems to have paid off and reception to the relaunch has been largely favorable.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available to play on PC, PS3 and PS4 with access to the game requiring a subscription payment.
