The end is nigh for Geralt - but you’ll have to wait a little longer for it, as The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt has been pushed back to a release date of February 2015.
Originally pinned for a release at the end of 2014, developer/publisher CD Projekt has said that the game requires “a few more months” to reach it ambitious goals.
In a statement released this morning, CD Projekt apologized to gamers who were anticipating the conclusion to a brilliant trilogy, saying: “we know many of you would have liked to play The Witcher 3 sooner, as soon as possible, even. We’re sorry to make you wait longer than you, or we, initially assumed you would. At the same time, we believe the game will prove to be worth the wait and meet the expectations you have of us. We believe The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be an exceptional RPG, one of the best, providing many hours of wonderful entertainment.”
CD Projekt continued to be deeply apologetic about their strategic move with a note to the company shareholders: “Dear shareholders - we are aware of the responsibility that rests with us and thank you for the trust you have granted us thus far. We firmly believe that quality - more than any other factor - determines a game’s success, and that the decision we have made is thus equally valid in business terms.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, there are promises of an open-ended adventure guided by player choice, set in a open world said to be 30x larger than its predecessor.
The game was recently featured in our list of 20 Games we’re looking forward to in 2014. Check out the 19 that remain as you await Geralt of Rivia’s return.
