Chris Lewis, The Vice President of Xbox EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), has announced that he will be retiring.

Having led the Xbox business from the beginning, Lewis is a veteran of the gaming industry. He’s been with Microsoft for a staggering 25 years since joining the company in 1989. Before his work on the Xbox brand, Lewis worked for various parts of the Microsoft company, spending four years as Regional Vice President for Retail Sales and Marketing for EMEA, driving sales in all Microsoft businesses including Office and Windows.

Since becoming VP, he has been responsible for driving the growth and success of the Xbox brand across Europe, Middle the East and Africa, bringing the Xbox brand to the same level of success that Sony has traditionally enjoyed in the UK. While it is rare to see Lewis in the limelight, he was an integral part of the team that made Xbox 360 the UK’s biggest games console over the last generation.

Lewis has become a very big part of the games industry over the course of his career, receiving multiple including the EMEA Chairman’s Award for outstanding leadership and consistent business success from Bill Gates.

He officially leaves at some point of the next few weeks while Microsoft seek out a replacement. Lewis is leaving the company to pursue his own business interests.

Here at Continue Play, we would like to thank Mr Lewis for all the hard work he has put in over the years, and wish him the very best of luck in his future projects.

“Since joining Microsoft as one of the first UK employees in 1989, Chris has made significant contributions across the partner, enterprise and retail businesses,” said CVP (Corporate Vice President) of Microsoft’s devices and studios marketing group Yusuf Mehdi.

“He has been a distinguished leader for our Xbox team in Europe – overseeing the launch of the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Kinect and most recently Xbox One, and growing the business significantly across the region… Following that success, Chris has now chosen to retire from Microsoft and focus on his other business and personal interests. We wish Chris nothing but the best, and we thank him for everything he’s contributed to Xbox and Microsoft as a whole over the past 25 years.”
