Kirby: Triple Deluxe coming to the 3DS in 2014

If you’re a fan of Kirby, that little pink blob with an insatiable appetite, then rejoice! Nintendo has announced more details during today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast about their new handheld title featuring the… erm… whatever he is.

Originally announced back in October, Kirby: Triple Deluxe is a new side-scrolling action game for the 3DS, taking advantage of the depth of the 3D abilities of Nintendo’s popular handheld with action taking place on multiple planes. With over 20 different abilities to utilize by hoovering up the various enemies on each level, the game features plenty of puzzles to solve in order to progress.

In addition, the game features a couple of additional modes, separate from the main story campaign. The first is Kirby Fighters, a 4-player fighting game played over the the 3DS’ local or wifi capabilities and looking not too dissimilar from Nintendo’s own Super Smash Bros.

The second mode is Drum Dash. In Drum Dash you take the role of Kirby’s arch-enemy in a simple rhythm-action game, tapping the screen in time with the music to jump higher on the drums at the bottom of the screen and avoiding obstacles.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe is due to land on the 3DS sometime next year and we’ll be keeping an eye on it as it develops.
