Nintendo “Working on” bringing GBA games to 3DS Virtual Console

According to Natsume Inc. (Harvest Moon, Rune Factory) Nintendo is “Working on” bringing games originally released on the Gameboy Advance to the 3DS Virtual Console service.

In response to numerous questions, Natsume Inc. Community Manager CeeCee said that “Nintendo does not put recent console games on the 3DS eShop, and sadly that means we cannot either. The same goes with GBA (outside of the ambassador games) — though they’re working on this and we look forward to the day it’s possible.”

In 2011, early adopters of the 3DS system (called Ambassadors) were given 10 free GBA games, Nintendo stated that the GBA ambassador games would never be publicly available, however this looks like it may change in the future.

You can expect further Virtual Console releases from Natsume as well, as CeeCee later went on to confirm that “HM [Harvest Moon] GBC did quite well for us, and we have a solid library of GBC games to draw from for re-release. Currently, we are working with Nintendo to re-release some more of our classic GBC games.”

GBC of course refers to the classic Gameboy Color.

They also say they’ll be reviewing their DS catalog of games in light of the recent news that the Wii U will be getting DS games on its Virtual Console service.
