There’s been a lot of interest recently surrounding Kojima Production’s playable-trailer-teaser-demo P.T. Ever since the short was released, players have picked apart and dissected every detail, including, of course, the biggest revelation of all - that P.T. is actually a teaser for the next installment in the Silent Hill series, headed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro and starring The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus.
Now it looks like another of P.T.’s mysteries has been cracked. YouTube user SirDaidv Gaming recently uploaded a video which features a bizarre Swedish broadcast played over a radio found in the teaser. After asking his viewers for some help in translating the message, SirDaidv updated the video with an approximate translation in subtitles. Most alarmingly, the broadcast seems to claim that aliens “are here on our Earth.” Here’s the full text:
“Close your eyes. Let your ears listen in to the radio. Do you hear my voice? Can you hear the screams of your own soul? Let us choose: My voice, which tells the future, Or your tormented [struggles?]. Well? What do you choose? You can choose. Your life. Your future! Wise as you are, you may already have noticed. As the radio drama from 75 years ago was the truth. They are here on our Earth. And they oversee and see all. Don’t trust the news. Don’t trust the police. They are already controlled by them. So has it been for 75 years now. Only [our master?] can keep them (at bay). You have a right. A right to become one of us. So welcome to our world. Very soon, the gates to a new dimension will open.”
The ‘Radio drama from 75 years ago,’ would appear to be a reference to the 1938 broadcast of H.G. Welles’ The War of the Worlds. The reference to the police and media being already controlled by “them” brings to mind the sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body-Snatchers.
So does this mean aliens will make an appearance in Silent Hills? For our money, most likely not - at least not as anything more than one of the amusing non-canon alternate endings that the series is known for (Silent Hill 2, famously, included a secret ending which revealed that all of the game’s events had been manipulated by a small dog sat in front of a control panel).
That being said… the player is later told in P.T. that they have been “chosen”, possibly a reference to the broadcast’s claim that “You have a right. A right to become one of us”. Aliens or not, that’s still pretty damn chilling.
