With E3 2015 just around the corner, and the dawn of Windows 10 just on the horizon, Microsoft has a lot in the air at the moment. As a result, according to a blog post by Xbox head Phil Spencer, E3 won’t have time to show everything Microsoft is planning on putting forward.
“Having a jam-packed lineup of games to show at E3 means that there simply isn’t enough time to give each of our upcoming titles its well-deserved time in the spotlight,” Spencer says in the blog post, “We’ve decided to save some of our most eagerly-awaited future titles for gamescom in August. Rest assured that titles like Crackdown, Quantum Break and Scalebound will be front and center at gamescom along with new game reveals for both Xbox One and Windows 10.”
Instead, the blog post details that E3’s main console showings will be on Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Opinion: As Eurogamer wisely points out, many of the titles singled out for show in E3 are also 2015 releases, much closer to the immediate future than those that are being pushed to Gamescom later in the year. Especially given the introduction of the new DirectX 12 in July, and all the buzz that will be surrounding graphical fidelity and hardware in a new post-Windows 10 environment, August seems like a better time to talk about future games, at least graphically speaking. For my money, I have no doubt that they’ll be any shortage of anything to talk about during E3, so adding a few more months to the wait time for more Crackdown or Scalebound goodness isn’t that big a deal.
