MachineGames’ upcoming standalone expansion to last year’s Wolfenstein: The New Order - Wolfenstein: The Old Blood - will receive a physical edition on the Xbox One.
Publisher Bethesda have confirmed that the physical edition, of the standalone Wolfenstein expansion, will ship on May 15th on the Xbox One alongside the PS4 and PC boxed versions.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will feature Nazi zombies, but don’t expect them to behave like the Nazi zombies of old. “These types of enemies can be tricky, because they don’t typically have range weapons,” stated Jerk Gustafsson, executive producer of developer MachineGames, on the Bethesda Blog. “But in The Old Blood, some of them actually use a rifle, and we also have some intense dash attacks!”
The game is comprised of two inter-connected stories, “Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves” and “The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs”, and will unfold across eight chapters, and if you buy the digital version, it will set you back just $19.99 / £14.99 / €19.99. While last year’s Wolfenstein: The New Order was set in an alternate 1950s in a world where the Nazis won the second world war, The Old Blood will take players back to the 1940s, as Hitler’s war marchine marches its jackboots across Europe and stamps over all the opposition in its way. 1940s “works well with the pulp B-movie thing we’re going for,” says MachineGame’s Executive Producer, Jerk Gustafsson.
So expect to be kept on your guard, these Nazi zombies have some serious bite. Check them out in action below.
Shehzaan Abdulla reviewed Wolfenstein: The New Order for Continue Play upon its release last year, scoring it a solid 8/10. “Is it let down by some difficulty spikes, a disappointing final act and an inconsistent narrative tone? Yes,” Shehzaan wrote in his Wolfenstein: The New Order review. “Does it suffer for not having a multiplayer mode or any of the other newfandangled features developers trip over themselves to cram into modern games? Not in the slightest.”
