These days, there’s not too much to differentiate the two titanic consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. There really are precious few exclusives between the two, and these days, particularly with the case of Watch_Dogs (which adds an hour’s worth of extra gameplay exclusively to the PS4 version), there really aren’t many reasons to buy one over the other besides for this pre-game content.
The Witcher franchise developer CD Projekt Red isn’t having any of this though, and has made it clear that they will not be giving either Microsoft or Sony any exclusive content for their respective consoles.
Speaking to Eurogamer, co-founder of CD Projekt RED Marcin Iwinski said that “It’s definitely against our values.” Considering the studio has been running GOG.com, a staunchly anti-DRM online store, it’s not surprising that he is very against the idea. “We’ll not deliver exclusive content to any of the platforms, nor will we artificially delay release of the game on any of the platforms because somebody’s paying us money for that.”
However, Iwinski did mention that he hopes that The Witcher 3 will make an appearance at E3, although he did not mention if it would be at Sony or Microsoft’s press conference. Given that CD Projekt RED doesn’t play sides, it will be interesting to see exactly where The Witcher 3 fits into the conference.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is slated for release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in February of 2015.
