Weekly Gaming Bargains: April 23, 2024

Piles of Coin

The hardest part of looking at long strings of deals is summoning up the self-control to know when not to spend. Some deals come more easily than others, but you’re never hurting for choice in any given week.

Steam

This week’s Midweek Madness on Steam includes Don’t Starve and Total War: Attila. Don’t Starve is on sale for $5.09, and Total War: Attila for $33.74.

Don’t Starve has consistently scored well and is held in high regard (including by ourselves), so it’s probably not a bad way to go at just over $5. And our own Jay Adams thought Atilla was the best game in the series for a very long time, so it’s worth a look if you got put off by the amount of bugs in previous games.

gog.com

gog.com’s Staff Pick this week is Games in Space.

  • FTL: Advanced Edition ($3.99)
  • Halfway ($6.49)
  • Total Annihilation: Commander Pack ($1.99)
  • Lifeless Planet ($7.99)
  • Waking Mars ($2.99)

IndieGameStand

Indie Game Stand has Barony as its pay-what-you-want deal, which is described as “Barony is a 3D, first-person rogue-like. The goal of the game is to descend to the bottom of a dark dungeon known as the Devil’s Bastion and destroy an undead lich named Baron Herx, who terrorized the peaceful town of Hamlet in life and is now harboring a curse against the land from beyond the grave.”

Bundle Stars

In addition to the same deals as below, the weekend has introduced the Shadow of Mordor bundle. Dale reviewed Shadow of Mordor for Continue Play, and found it to be a fun, if shallow game, but with all that bundled DLC it’s worth picking up if you like open-ended action games.

Several familiar bundles here, by Weekly Game Deal standards, and most fall into sections of taste. As with last week, the Factions bundle has good games for competitive players, including my recommendations of Guns of Icarus Online and The Ship. The Trinity 2 bundle has Dustforce (our 9/10 review here) and Capsized, both of which are well worth the $2.49 each, much less together with 8 other games.

Indie Gala

New this week on IndieGala is unfortunately just a new Monday bundle.

  • The Evoland bundle ($3.99 for 8 games.), including Evoland and Type:Rider.
  • Hump Day bundle ($3.99 for 12 games.) which includes an indie favorite of mine, Home.
  • Monday bundle ($2.99 for 6 games.) this week is another set of largely unknown indie titles.
  • Friday bundle ($3.99 for 12 games.) is the same as last two weeks, still including the beautiful co-op ibb&obb.

The Friday bundle is still a good deal, especially back down to $3.99. Still a good deal for ibb&obb and Nihilumbra as well. Although if unknown and interesting indies are your thing, this week’s Monday bundle should have something interesting in play.

Humble Bundle

The Humble Origin Bundle 2 has added four new games to the above-average items, more of the older AAA title from the publishing Goliath EA. The average, at time of writing, is $4.95. We’ve added links to our reviews, where we’ve got them.

  • Dragon Age Origins
  • Peggle
  • Dead Space 2
  • Metal of Honor: Allied Assault Warchest
  • Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour
  • Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare (Above the average)
  • Dragon Age II (Above the average)
  • Bejeweled 3 (Above the average)
  • Mass Effect 2 (Above the average)
  • Sim City 2000: Special Edition (Above the average)
  • Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger (Above the average)
  • Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom (Above the average)
  • Ultima VII Complete Edition (Above the average)

Humble Weekly Strategy Bundle 2 is on-going from last week. At time of writing, it is at an average of $3.92.

  • Frozen Synapse Prime
  • Shattered Planet
  • Skulls of the Shogun
  • CastleStorm (Above the average)
  • Bloodsports.TV (Above the average)
  • Endless Space - Emperor Edition ($12 or higher)

There is also a Humble Tin Man Mobile bundle this week, with an average of $6.56.

  • Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106
  • Slaves of Rema
  • Siege of the Necromancer
  • An Assassin in Orlandes
  • Trial of the Clone (Above the average)
  • Curse of the Assassin (Above the average)
  • Fighting Fantasy: Caverns of the Snow Witch (Above the average)
  • Sultans of Rema (Above the average)
  • Ryan North’s To Be or Not To Be ($9 or higher)
  • Fighting Fantasy: Starship Traveller ($9 or higher)

The Origin bundle still looks like a good deal, especially given Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. Sim City 2000 is also a fan favorite some Sim City fans.

PlayStation Store

It is now Week 8 of the Spring Fever on PSN, and this week’s featured franchise is Call of Duty, almost exclusively the newer titles. Although good deals for new AAA titles, the sale prices this week are still rather high. Though Call of Duty games never really dig deep into discounted territory.

Xbox Live

Microsoft is following suit on Call of Duty sales, with Call of Duty: Ghosts as the spotlight sale. Deals with Gold this week includes Call of Duty: Ghosts, Call of Duty III, Call of Duty: Ghosts Hardened Edition, Never Alone, and We Are Doomed.

Nintendo Network

Nintendo’s Offers page continues to state the Mario vs Donkey Kong Tipping Stars cross-buy program. As well as that, though there doesn’t seem to be an organized sale, several games are on discount, including both major publisher and indie titles for both the WiiU and 3DS platforms.

That’s it for this week, as always, share your thoughts in the comments below, and if you have any recommendations for our list, do let us know.

@HurdyIV Today must be a day of atypicality. I actually had thoughts for a piece that aren't about Spec Ops: The Line. - 16 hours ago
