Ubisoft has today announced that Watch_Dogs will be receiving a tie-in novel, to be published as an ebook in two formats - a classic ebook version, and an enhanced version with interactive elements, videos and images.
Titled Watch_Dogs //n/Dark Clouds, the events of the novel take place after the conclusion of the game’s storyline - which sees Aiden Pearce attemtping to uncover a vast conspiracy in the surveillance-dominated city of Chicago in the near future. The novel is said to feature an “all-new story”, following a new protagonist, Mick Wolfe. Wolfe is an ex-military man, and the story sees him getting mixed up with Chicago’s seedy and violent underworld. It’s been penned by John Shirley, a veteran writer with over 30 books and short stories to his name and is a notable figure in the realm of Cyberpunk literature.
“Working on Watch Dogs was enormously interesting to me because its world offers the convergence of cyberpunk and the edgy tech reality of our times,” says Shirley in a statement inside the press release, “it all plays out with action and energy against the inner city backdrop that I thrive in.”
He goes on to say: “With hack tech in one hand and gun in the other, Aiden Pearce is a believable fusion of hacker and action hero who deliberately slips between the cracks of society to relentlessly pursue his agenda.”
Dark Clouds will be available in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, and is due to be released alongside the game on May 27th. You can learn more about the book by visiting the official site.
