Valiant Hearts: The Great War Receives Release Date and Trailer

While the Second World War has inspired countless videogames, World War I is a conflict rarely touched upon in the medium. It mostly has to do with WWII having a clearly identifiable “evil” to vanquish, while “The War to End All Wars” was a murkier battle, fought for altogether more political reasons.

Instead of releasing a straight-up military game that takes place during the war, Ubisoft is doing something different with Valiant Hearts: The Great War. The game tells a personal tale about four people who participate in the battle, in a 2D adventure puzzler which aims to show the struggles that the characters have to endure - and the things that they do and sacrifice for those they love and care for.

The game runs on the UbiArt Framework engine, which was also used to create Rayman: Origins, Rayman Legends, and Child of Light. Although the art style is animated, it carries a somber and dark tone in stark contrast to those games . As you can see from the trailer below, it perfectly captures the horror of the Great War.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on June 25.

Daniel doesn't just play and write about games, but he also writes his own comics. He can usually be found arguing with Dale about who the best member of the X-Men is (it's Jamie Madrox, obviously)
