Ubisoft has announced that it will no longer be developing games for the PS3 or the Xbox 360, with the exception of Just Dance.
The company confirmed the move last night during a financial call with investors, explaining that its focus would now be on current gen consoles and the PC.
Both recent Assassin’s Creed games - Rogue and Unity - were cross-gen, as was Far Cry 4. However, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will only be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Almost unbelievably, this will be the third major Assassin’s Creed release on the newer platforms in two years (Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate).
This also marks the first year that there won’t be a major Assassin’s Creed game released on Xbox 360 and PS3, since the series began.
Ubisoft’s statement leaves its position on Wii U development in the dark. The company previously announced that Watch Dogs would be the last mature game released on Nintendo’s platform. Just Dance support is expected to continue, however, it’s unclear whether Ubisoft plan to release any other Wii U games in the future.
