Kalypso has unveiled a new expansion for its tongue-in-cheek Dictator sim Tropico 5.
The Waterborne expansion is set to be released on December 17th for PC and will bring with it 6 new campaign missions, new multiplayer modes, and water-based game mechanics - a first for the series. No mention is made in the announcement about console versions, but presumably they’ll be made available later.
Features include water traffic, larger coastal areas and new random events designed to challenge players to their limits. You’ll be able to build offshore defenses, food sources, energy sources, entertainment and housing. Oyster farms, tidal power plants and floating apartments all feature, as well as military submarines and bathyspheres (which will be familiar to anyone who’s played Irrational’s Bioshock). Here’s the full list of features, according to the official press release:
- New campaign and story spanning 6 challenging missions
- 9 new off-shore buildings and marine vehicles
- 4 new island maps (also available for sandbox games)
- 4 new music tracks
- 2 new avatar costumes
- 6 new avatar accessories
- New sandbox tasks and events to go with the waterborne setting
The Waterborne expansion will set you back $19.99/ £14.99/ €19.99. Check out the announcement trailer, along with some screenshots, below.
