Square Enix has announce that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call - a music and rhythm game featuring classic compositions from the whole of the series’ history - will be released on September 16 across North America, September 19 across Europe.
There will be three versions of the game:
1) The plain old Standard Edition
2) The Limited Edition which comes with a 5 track bonus disc entitled Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call - Remix Selections. You can secure the LE by pre-ordering the game from a retailer or Square Enix’s site. If you pre-order the Standard Edition of the game instead of buying it on release you’ll get a complementary upgrade to the Limited Edition, free of charge.
3) The Collector’s Edition with the aforementioned Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call - Remix Selections, an additional 20 track disc entitled The Best of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, a limited edition 3DS pouch and 5 premium limited edition cards. The CE is priced at $69.99/£44.99/ €54.99. There are only 5,000 CE’s being made and they are exclusive to Square Enix’s online store, so order quickly.
The limited edition cards in the CE can be used to unlock their in-game counterparts. These cards confer stat increases to characters. You can learn more about the specifics of the CollectaCard system from our hands-on preview.
We weren’t happy with the import version of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, finding it a sequel bereft of challenge and deeply flawed at its rhythmic core. The 3DS music-and-rhythm game needed more than hundreds of songs from the Final Fantasy series to wow us - and we say that as big fans of the franchise. Still, that’s unlikely to deter legions of fans hungry for a new slice of immersing themselves in some of the series fantastic music, and at least now they know how much longer they have to wait.
