Valve has recently revealed this year’s Dota 2 Compendium, a nifty digital book that serves numerous purposes for the Dota 2 International 2015 tournament.
First introduced for the 2013 International tournament, it’s no surprise that Valve is making use of the very successful Compendium again this year. It was seen as a creative way of getting players involved and increasing the size of the prize pool through donations (which ended up at a whopping $2 874 381 USD).
The Interactive Compendium keeps you up to date with the International tournament and gives you access to new content as the tournament progresses. It lets players place tournament bets and gives them a chance to vote on different player awards. Priced at $10, $2.50 of it will contribute to the prize pool which currently sits at $5,299,388 (at the time of writing). You can see the current size of the pool at any time over here.
As with the previous Compendium, Valve unlocks various rewards once certain goals are met (sort of like Kickstarter). This acts as an added incentive for players to purchase the Compendium. For example, the next stretch goal, which unlocks once the Compendium generates $5,500,000 USD, unlocks a new International Tournament HUD skin for all Compendium purchasers. The highest stretch goal, which unlocks at $15,000,000 USD will unlock a longform comic of the popular playable character Axe and his new “Immortal Item”.
Players who purchase the Compendium will also be able to level it up and earn other rewards. You can do this by completing various challenges, such as destroying any Barracks before the game timer reaches 30:00 minute mark. You can see the full list on the Dota 2 Wiki page. If you’re feeling lazy you can take the easy route and purchase Compendium points to level up and unlock the rewards. A portion of the money received from this will also go towards the prize pool.
