Rejoice all indie fans: Sony has answered your prayers with an announcement at PAX Prime promising a host of indie titles released for the PS4 and Vita.
Salt and Sanctuary, developed by SKA Studios, is a side-scrolling RPG where the character build you choose will affect the type of playstyle you will have. Alone with You developed by Benjamin Rivers casts you as the last surviving colonist on an alien planet with a month to escape, where yourself and your ship’s AI will be expected to “recreate” members of your colony to aid you, your interactions with the characters will influence how your game ends. Both of these titles are PS4 and Vita exclusives and due for release in 2015.
Desert Ashes, which is due to be released this Autumn,is a turn-based RPG developed by Luc Bernard promising a free-to-play multiplayer experience between the Vita and PlayStation TV, which features a timer system to ensure faster gameplay.
Nidhogg, developed by Messhoff, has already had a PS4 version announced, and a Vita version has been announced today which will be cross-buy, allowing purchasers to enjoy the game on both systems. A pixelated fencing game previously released for PC, the aim in Nidhogg is to be the first player to cross the goal line and be eaten by a pink dragon creature – the titular Nidhogg. The game also features tournament-style multiplayer and the chance for two players to play on the same Vita.
Popular strategy card-game Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer is being released on Vita by Playdek. The game revolves around players building a deck of cards based on the initial ten cards they are dealt at the start, and taking cards from the centre deck in order to improve their hands. Neither of these games have an announce date set so far.
Dust: An Elysian Tail is a previously Xbox 360 and PC-exclusive title that is now being released on the PS4. A hand-drawn, 2D side-scrolling RPG game, its creator Humble Hearts has promised it will be released “Very, very soon”.
Lastly is SNK Playmore’s Metal Slug 3, a 2D run-and-gun game previously released on PS2. This title will be released on PS3, PS4 and Vita in Winter.
With a wide variety of different game styles available in this list, there is bound to be something there to appeal to all gamers on Sony consoles.
