In today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Super Smash Bros. series creator, Masahiro Sakurai, spoke more about what we can expect from the new installment.
Firstly, although the game is being released on both 3DS and the Wii U, there will be a number of differences: each version will have a different selection of stages, while the 3DS version of the game will receive an exclusive game mode. “Smash Run” will see players racing through a dungeon in 5 minutes, taking on NPC enemies in a bid to level up their character. Once the time is up, players are flung into a fast-paced match where they’re able to take advantage of the power-ups and items that they’ve gathered.
But that’s not all: Greninja, the final evolution of Froakie from Pokemon X/Y has been revealed as a new playable character, equipped with a host of impressive ninja moves. Zero Suit Samus has now been separated from the regular version of Samus, and has been upgraded with a pair of jet boots which allow her to launch fast, powerful flurries of kicks. Charizard is another returning character that will now be selectable, as is Sheik.
Fans of Yoshi will be pleased to know that he stands completely upright now, and has received a strengthened moveset.
Also, release windows have been revealed for both games. The 3DS version is due in the next few months, while the Wii U version of the game will ship this Winter.
