Paul Cuisset is best known as the man behind the 1992 cinematic platformer Flashback.
The Amiga game was popular enough to see re-releases on MS-DOS, the Acorn Archimedes and even contemporary home consoles such as the Sega Mega Drive and Super Nintendo. Well now Cuisset is back, and this time he’s teamed up with indie publisher (ignore the contradiction, if you will) Microids to bring us a 3D adventure game called Subject 13… well, almost; he needs funding help, and has set-up a 30 day Kickstarter campaign to help reach his targets.
In Subject 13 you take the role of physics professor Franklin Fargo, and help him escape his laboratory prison. And although it’s not entirely clear how the professor ended up in his prison, we do know that prior to imprisonment he was leading a reclusive lifestyle, a response to the death of his fiancée Sophie who was killed in a robbery that was intended to target him. Upon awaking in the prison a voice calls out to Fargo, calling him “Subject 13″. You have to figure out not only how to escape, but how all of it is linked to Fargo’s past.
Cuisset had the following to say on how the concept for the game came about: ““Subject 13 arose from a concept and programming experiment to become a passion I cannot put down […] We realized we needed assistance from players to realize the game’s potential and we are asking for Kickstarter supporters to help us create an expression of pure adventure gaming. The early feedback has been very positive and we want to take it to the next stage—adding advanced graphics and an emotional score while bringing in gamers to share their feedback on how we can make the game its very best.”
The Kickstarter page details some of the bonuses open to select backers such as a private class on game development with Cuisset himself.
