Edge Case Games, a new studio based in Guildford, UK and founded by the team behind the fast-paced mech/spacecraft shooter Strike Suit Zero, has announced their first project.
Fractured Space is being described as “a bold new vision in tactical space combat”, pitting teams of online players in large-scale battles between huge capital ships.
The game is due to launch via Steam Early Access later this year, following a full release as a free-to-play game sometime in 2015. Supporters who back the game prior to release will be granted a number of benefits, including exclusive ships, crew members, boosters and ranks. Players will be be able to earn credits which can be spent expanding or upgrading their fleet, and choose from a wide variety of craft filling a number of different roles and from different manufacturers.
In addition, Edge Case Games is using what they call an “open development ethic”, working with its community and sharing assets, prototypes and development plans while implementing feedback and using it to help them craft Fractured Space into the best experience it can be.
“Fractured Space is an ambitious project we have wanted to do for quite some time, and we’re very excited to now confirm its development,” said James Brooksby, CEO of Edge Case Games. “Above all else we want to transmit a sense of scale to the player - the feeling of participating in a massive space battle inside their own titanic capital ship, blasting apart enemy ships and working together with other players to achieve a common objective.”

Dan reviewed Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut earlier this year, scoring it a respectable 7/10. “While ultimately derivative of its predecessors, Strike Suit Zero‘s goal as a successfully funded Kickstarter project was clear: Reintroduce the space combat genre and give it the TLC it deserves,” he wrote. “In that respect, Strike Suit Zero succeeds admirably.”
