Image & Form CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson has confirmed that their critically successful SteamWorld Dig is in fact making its way to Xbox One. No firm release date has been given, but they do expect it to launch on the Xbox Store by late May of this year.

SteamWorld Dig came from a humble beginning on 3DS but has since branched out to other platforms such as PS Vita, Wii U, PS4, and PC. The Xbox One version will be a straight port, for the most part. The Xbox One port will feature an intricate Easter Egg that which we have yet to see on any other iterations of the game. Theses differences are not substantial however, the differing versions are similar to each other in order to keep all those console allegiances in check.

For SteamWorld Dig expanding from the 3DS to HD ports like on Xbox was not too difficult to achieve. The original 3DS version was compacting surprisingly detailed graphics into a 3DS game. These impressive graphics were not used to the fullest of their potential though due to the restrictive nature of the device, in terms of visuals. This made a much needed HD port a reality.

In related news, SteamWorld Heist is the next ambitious game in the SteamWorld series. With Heist Image & Form is looking to capture the essence of the series with this one riding the success of Dig.

Shown at Pax East there’s no question that were getting those unique visuals that is the staple of the SteamWorld series. As well as spotlights and high contrast are everywhere to be found in the ascetic of the rusty colors and steel and brick environment.

Aside from appearance, the Dev team is still sorting out how larger parties will affect the map and movement. So character design will be critical to how the game plays. The team has made 15 playable characters but plans to add up to 20 at a later point in time. Given that each character is vastly different from the next this makes developing a challenge but makes for fun gameplay and adds replayability value something Dig did well.

SteamWorld Heist will drop this August for Xbox One, and Wii U can expect it a couple of months later in October. It will also be released on mobile platforms at an unannounced date.
