Star Wars Leads The Pack In This Week’s Gaming Deals

A not-so long time ago, in a galaxy not very far away, a load of digital distribution services updated their weekly deals. Yep, it’s that time of the week when gog.com, Steam and every man and his dog has rolled out a fresh round of offers for you to consider splurging on as your May pay packet hits your bank account.

The highlight this week is undoubtedly gog.com, which is currently celebrating the upcoming International Star Wars Day by adding a slew of new Force-related games to the service, and two separate gaming bundles to choose from. Not only that, but it’s upgraded X-Wing and TIE Fighter to the Collector’s Edition versions, which refined the flight model used, as well as enhancing the graphics and sound. The collector’s edition versions are also exclusive to gog.com, so if you’re debating whether to buy them on Steam or gog.com, gog.com is our platform of choice.

Steam

This week’s Midweek Madness on Steam features Dungeon Defenders II ($16.74) and the Ubisoft Arcade sale, featuring a lot of titles from the publisher’s recent past.

Child of Light ($5.09) is a beautiful, artful game (which we found delightful in our Child of Light review), and Valiant Hearts, which Nic found to be a unmissable experience. At $3.74, you really should experience it for yourself if you haven’t already.

gog.com is currently running their May the 4th special, offering two Star Wars bundles - The Star Wars Saber and Blaster bundles.

The Saber bundle includes:

Both packs feature their share of excellent games, depending on your tastes. If you’re looking forward to Star Wars: Battlefront this year, then the Saber bundle’s inclusion of Battlefront II is certainly worth a look - it’s an oldie but a goody. Republic Commando also comes highly recommended, presenting a Star Wars-flavored take on first-person tactical shooters. Think Rainbow Six with Clone Troopers, and you’re pretty much there.

IndieGameStand

Indie Game Stand has Journey of a Roach as its pay-what-you-want deal, which is described as “the story of two roach-buddies, who want nothing but see the surface world. On their way up, they meet all kinds of bizarre and ludicrous insects inhabiting the post-apocalyptic earth.”

It’s a decent point-and-click puzzler from Daedalic, who certainly know a thing or two about creating good adventure games.

Bundle Stars

The Shadow of Mordor bundle persists this week. Dale Morgan reviewed Shadow of Mordor for Continue Play, and found it to be a fun, if shallow game, but thinks it’s worth picking up if you like open-ended action games, since this bundle comes with all the DLC.

The Indie Legends bundle is astoundingly good, with every game on the list easily exceeding quality expectations. In particular, Guacamelee! is a favorite, a sentiment echoed by Nic Bunce in our Guacamelee! review. Likewise, the Surprise Attack bundle has some standouts.

Indie Gala

IndieGala this week has a new set for pretty much everything, with the exception of the Evoland bundle.

  • The Evoland bundle ($3.99 for 8 games.), including Evoland and Type:Rider, is still here for the last week.
  • Hump Day bundle ($2.89 for 13 games.) is a big, varied, but largely unknown set this week.
  • Monday bundle ($2.99 for 6 games.) is a fresh set of largely unknowns.
  • Friday bundle ($2.99 for 12 games.) is new this week, including the well-received Mutant Blobs Attack.

The Friday bundle and Evoland bundles both look solid this week, especially since they’re full of the interesting sides of indie that can go unnoticed in a very packed market.

Humble Bundle

Humble Bundle has switched Origin for Might & Magic with the Humble Might & Magic Bundle this week. The current average at time of writing is $12.17.

Of everything this week, the Weekly bundle seems the most interesting to me, but I’ve always been a fan of multiplayer titles.

PlayStation Store

Spring Fever is finally over, and has been replaced with Golden Week, which has accompanied a Golden Week sale from PSN. Some of the standouts include Catherine (PS3) at $6.80, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4) at $10, and Dragon’s Crown (Vita) for $13.60.

There is also a May the 4th sale through the PlayStation Network, including several Star Wars games not featured on gog.com.

Xbox Live

Microsoft is also in on the May the 4th sales, particularly for the Xbox 360. They are also having a Capcom publisher sale, with unique games for the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. Of those, the standouts are Devil May Cry HD Collection (360) for $9.89, and Dead Rising 3 (Xbox One) for $17.99.

Nintendo Network

Nintendo’s Offers page persists with the Mario vs Donkey Kong Tipping Stars cross-buy program. As well as that, several games are on discount, including both major publisher and indie titles for the WiiU and 3DS.
