Spark Unlimited, the developer behind such games as Legendary, Lost Planet 3 and Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, has stopped developing games after 11 years in the industry.
This news was confirmed by Polygon after a NeoGAF poster noticed the studio was auctioning off its remaining assets.
Chief technical officer of Spark, John Butrovich, told Polygon that “it’s the end of Spark as a game developer” and that the principal members of the studio have “decided to move on to other things”. He also confirmed that co-founder and CEO of Spark Unlimited resigned late last year to “pursue other ventures and interests”.
The company’s unfinished free-to-play game has been cancelled, but the studio’s core team will continue working together on non-video game projects.
Spark Unlimited was founded in 2002 and released its first game, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, in 2004. It followed up this release with Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Legendary, Lost Planet 3 and Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z - all of which received mixed to negative reviews.
