Somebody just completed Fallout 3 in under 24 minutes

Speedrunning is nothing new in the videogame community. As soon as developers put out a new game, players will try to beat it faster, by means both fair and foul.

Take this world-record speedrun through Bethesda’s Fallout 3, for example. In just 23 minutes and 55 seconds, Youtube user BubblesDelFuego completed the main storyline, going from infant to hero in less time than it might take most players to even get through the game’s opening tutorial. That’s impressive, considering you can easily play for 100 hours on a single profile (and that’s before you factor in the game’s expansions).

It bears mentioning that BubblesDelFuego used clipping to skip through the levels as quickly as possible, cutting through terrain and doorways, typically without even firing a shot. He also manipulated the quick save and quick load functions to skip dialogue sequences altogether, and memorized where to click in order to move through key conversations as quickly as possible.

Oh, and the best part? BubblesDelFuego was also the previous record holder at 24 minutes, 20 seconds. In the world of speedruns, every second counts, so a reduction of 5 seconds is a lot more impressive than it might first appear.

If you want to give speedrunning Fallout 3 a try for yourself, take a look at BubblesDelFuego’s FAQ.
