Today marks the first anniversary for the fantasy free-to-play MOBA Smite. Hi-Rez studios it appears has as retained the Smite community for a years time due to the support they’ve provided to loyal players.
Developer Hi-Rez hosted an AMA on Reddit today, which was primarily be about the upcoming Xbox One port of the game, but also touched on other areas. Lead Producer Andy Anderson handled all of questions.
From now until Friday the Ultimate God Pack-a package containing all of the god released and every upcoming god to be released for the duration of this game will be discounted from $29.99 to $19.99 as part of the festivities. additionally, pre-released God skins will be 50 percent off, and all gem bundles will grant virtual currency to be used in the game’s shop.
And finally, from Friday through Sunday all gods will be free to play, with players earning double worshippers per match - which is essentially God experience points - and extra gems awarded for victory.
Smite may be a MOBA which exists in an increasingly crowded genre, but it’s at least doing something a bit different from the likes of League of Legends, DotA2 and Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm. While most popular MOBA games are played from an overhead perspective, Smite places you right in the action via a ground-level third-person camera, meaning that the gampeplay feels more akin to a modern action game than an RTS.
