Yacht Club Games has detailed the first major expansion for their popular faux-retro side-scroller, Shovel Knight.
The Plague of Shadows expansion adds a ton of new content to the game, which originally came out on PC last June before being ported to 3DS and Wii U a bit later on (PlayStation versions will arrive next month, on April 21st for PS3, PS4 and Vita).
Sayeth the developer about the game: “You play as Plague Knight, the villainous master of alchemy, in a quest all his own. Using his maniacal scientific mind, Plague Knight is seeking to concoct Serum Supernus, the Ultimate Potion. However, to retrieve these ingredients, he must extract them from his former allies… the villainous knights of the Order of No Quarter!”
Among the new content being added to the game is a new Crafting system that will allow you to transform loot into powerups and new equipment. Some areas are entirely new, while others are “remixed” versions of Shovel Knight‘s areas, with new objectives, paths and enemies. Some areas have been completely redesigned, and some new bosses have been added to the game.
A smattering of retro-tastic screenshots have been released, which you can see below.
The expansion is due sometime in Q2, so sometime around mid to late Summer. Plague of Shadows will be free to anyone who owns or purchases the original game on (deep breath) 3DS, Linux, Mac, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita or Wii U. Free?! What is this devilry?
