We recently brought you news of a promising looking Kickstarter-funded title called Shiness. Shiness is a cel-shaded RPG by French indie developer Ynnis Interactive which looks part Ni no Kuni and part Dark Cloud. The Kickstarter campaign for the game is now officially open to prospective backers. For those that need a little more encouragement before you go back a game, we have some screens and renders to share with you.
These new screens show off Shiness’ real-time battle system in action. Battles take place in the same gameplay area used for field-exploration, however a white circle descends around the combatants, temporarily limiting movement to within the circle until the fight is over.
Interestingly, this white combat-circle doesn’t make enemies instantly aware of the players’ presence - it’s entirely possible to tip-toe right up to the enemy and engage them at close quarters, dealing massive damage. Remember, with great damage comes great responsibility; get spotted before you can attack, and the developer promises that the enemy will “make you understand the meaning of pain!”
While it remains to be seen if Shiness will play out as promised, it certainly sounds like the kind of game we are eager to get our hands on. We will be bringing you more news on Shiness as it develops.
