Sony Computer Entertainment has announced today that Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), will be leaving his position as of March 31.

A press release issued by Sony said that Tretton is leaving as a result of a “mutual agreement between Mr. Tretton and SCEA not to renew their contractual relationship.”

Tretton has been with SCEA since 1995, he was a founding member of the executive team. He has been president of SCEA since 2006.

“Working at SCEA for the past 19 years has been the most rewarding experience of my career,” said Tretton, in a press release distributed by Sony Computer Entertainment. “Although I will deeply miss the talented team at SCEA and the passion demonstrated every day by our fans, I’m very excited about starting the next chapter of my career. I want to thank the employees, partners and customers for their tireless commitment to the PlayStation brand and, of course, to our fans who have pushed us to new heights of innovation and entertainment over the past two decades.”

Shawn Layden, Executive Vice President and COO of Sony Entertainment International, will take the reins of President and CEO of SCEA on April 1. Layden has been with PlayStation for 15 years, and was a founding member of Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI).

Ryan is a soon-to-be graduate of Northern Illinois University (Go Huskies!) and video games have always been a passion for him. If it weren't for Goldeneye and StarCraft, he probably wouldn't be where he is today.
