Ryu, Roy, Lucas, and Many Miis Now Live on Smash Bros

Ryu in Smash Bros

Following a Nintendo Direct stream this morning, Nintendo has both announced and released a great deal of new content for Smash Bros 3DS and WiiU.

During the E3 pre-show from Nintendo Direct, Smash Bros has announced and also released new characters Roy and Lucas, veterans to the Smash Bros series, and Ryu, complete with familiar Street Fighter mechanics and stage. Each of the three announced characters come with their own release trailers, in addition to a slew of other content.

Several classic stages are seeing re-release, as well as a plethora of Mii Fighter costumes, including Akira and Jackie from Virtua Fighter, Inkling Boy and Girl from Splatoon, Megaman.EXE and Zero from Megaman series, Heihachi from Tekken, and Isabelle from Animal Crossing.

The most surprising part of the reveal, however, is the new mechanics to be found for the Ryu character. Although Smash Bros plays very differently to traditional fighters, Ryu has many Street Fighter mechanics added into the game. Among them are traditional button inputs for abilities, Focus Attack Dash Cancels, and other such mechanics.

Included with the update was the announcing of several Amiibos relevant to Smash Bros, and that everything in-game that’s been announced has also been released immediately, and is already live on both the 3DS and WiiU.

@ErikBoielle Well, with E3 done and dusted, I'd still like to sit and talk about games writing. It's been an interesting year. - 5 hours ago
