We already knew it was coming thanks to boxart spotted on Xbox.com, but now it’s official. During Sony’s pre-TGS conference, Sony formally announced that Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be released in Japan sometime in 2015.

Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, the protagonists of the original Revelations - which first came out on Nintendo’s 3DS back in 2012 before being ported to PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U - won’t return, it was confirmed. Instead, Revelations 2 will feature an all-new cast. Other details are scarce, though we do know that it’s in development by the same team behind the first game. A brief teaser trailer shows a young woman walking through a crowd, with uninfected humans wearing glowing green wristbands while zombies’ wristbands glow red. A new pre-emptive way to detect an impending outbreak? It’s Resident Evil, so expect plenty of conspiracies and for things to go horribly wrong early on into the game.

Specific platforms weren’t mentioned, though PlayStation and Xbox pltaforms as well as PC seem like a safe bet. The announcement comes shortly after it was confirmed that a remaster of the original Resident Evil - to be based on the Gamecube version of the game - is also in development. It seems that Capcom isn’t about to let the tepid reception of Resident Evil 6 slow it down, though the first Revelations was seen by many as a return to the slower-paced gameplay of the original games, so the announcement of a sequel and another remaster of the first in the series could indicate that the publisher is taking the series back to its roots. No bad thing, surely.
