The Pokémon Company has just announced Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, two games which it’s billing as, “a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire.“
Going on the previous naming conventions, it appears that Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire are remakes of the 2003 Gameboy Advance 3rd generation Pokémon releases, Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire.
This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has remade entries in the Pokémon series: in 2004 the first generation of Pokémon games (Pokémon Red/Blue) which were originally released for the Gameboy, were remade as Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green for the Gameboy Advance. The second generation of Pokémon games (Pokémon Gold/Silver) were originally released for the Gameboy and Gameboy Color, but were also rereleased in 2009 for the Nintendo DS as Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver.
Naturally we expect that many of the additions and advancements that have been made in Pokémon X/Y will feature in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
No screenshots or assets from the game have been released, however it has been revealed that the games will be released on 3DS this November. Regardless, Nintendo did show off some tentative package shots of the upcoming games:
