It’s been announced that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will let you freely roam the skies of Hoen for the first time ever in a Pokémon game.
While flying isn’t exactly new to Pokémon games, the free roam aspect most certainly is. You’ll be able to swoop up into the air at your own will and fly freely from one location to another making use of nifty loop-da-loops and handbrake turns, exploring the open skies on the way.
Sounds cool, right?
The new feature is said to unlock modes including aerial Pokémon battles and new areas which include various hidden islands, and strange Mirage spots which contain rare Pokémon as well as items.
There’s a hitch though - you won’t be able to use any old Pokémon to take to the skies. You’re going to need one of the game’s two legendary Pokemon: Mega Latios or Mega Latias, as well as the newly implemented Soar ability. Once you have one of those bad boys you’ll need to acquire a flute (Obtainable roughly halfway through the game) that lets you summon one of them to ride on.
Only one flute is available per game, which means that you’ll only be able to ride one of the legendaries. However, Nintendo has said that they’ll release a special Eon ticket later this year that will enable players to gain access to another. Check out the trailer below:
