It’s somewhat fitting that the Secret Base feature, which first made it’s appearance in the third generation Pokémon games Ruby/Sapphire, is making an expanded comeback for the 3DS remakes Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
But unlike the third generation bases which were mostly for decoration, here base customization serves a purpose. By visiting other player’s bases, which can be collected via Street Pass or exchanged as QR codes, you’ll be able to invite players you encounter back to your own base. These players, called “Secret Pals” have their own support skills such as sharing new Decorations, making a Pokémon Egg hatch faster, or raising the level of a select Pokémon by one. The more Secret Pals you have, the more support skills benefits you can reap.
Each base is also stocked with a Secret PC, which we assume is the same as a regular PC for game saves and sorting boxes, and next to the Secret PC is a “Secret” Flag… well, we guess it’s not a secret anymore. The more flags you secure the greater the potency of Secret Pal support skills.
As with the original generation 3 bases, you’ll be able to customize your headquarters. However, this time you’ll be able to create mazes, traps and set custom battle rules, turning your base into a Pokémon Gym.
Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire will be releasing for the 3DS later this year on November 28. In addition to the expanded Secret Base mechanic, the games also include a new form of evolution.
