Sony has announced that its micro-console, PlayStation TV, is to be released on October 14th in North America and November 14th in Europe.
The device, which allows you to stream PlayStation 4 games to another HD TV in your home, as well as play PlayStation Vita, PSP and original PlayStation games, will be available for $99.99/£84.99 respectively.
The console will come bundled with vouchers for three digital PlayStation Vita games: Velocity Ultra, OlliOlli and Worms: Revolution Extreme. Hundreds of Vita, PSP and PlayStation One games will also be available upon release, including: Crash Bandicoot, Hotline Miami, LittleBigPlanet and Spyro the Dragon. A complete list of games can be found over on the PlayStation Blog.
PlayStation TV initially launched in Japan in November last year to mixed responses. It was greatly compared to set-top boxes and other micro-consoles such as Ouya. IGN said that it “may be one of Sony’s most exciting new products and could provide a critical edge for the PS4.” One of the main criticisms upon the consoles initial Japanese release was the limited library of games, which was a small subset of PlayStation Vita games; however, with the Western release boasting some of the most beloved PlayStation franchises of all time, we can only anticipate how it is received.
