Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare will be released on PC on June 27, publisher Electronic Arts has announced. Previously, the game has been exclusive to Xbox, having been released on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One back in February of this year. They’ve also released a trailer to go along with the announcement, which you can view below.
“We’ve had an amazing response from players since launching the Xbox platforms, and can’t wait for PC players to join the party this summer,” said Brian Lindley, the game’s producer. “The PC version has all the great content that we have put out since launch like Garden Variety and Zomboss Down for players to enjoy from the start.”
Garden Warfare takes Popcap Games’ popular lawn-defense game and reimagines it as a 3rd-person multiplayer shooter, complete with a variety of modes, maps and characters. We rather like it, and should have our finalized review ready very soon.
In other related news, the Xbox version of the game has recently been updated with an in-game store where players can spend real money on packs of stickers. Stickers unlock various items such as new costume pieces and other content. While EA is keen to stress that players are never forced to pay real money - just as well, considering you need to buy the game in order to play it in the first place - many players have expressed dismay at the news. It’s worth noting, however, that a large amount of additional content has already been added to the game free of charge, and the publisher has reiterated their commitment to continue to do so in the future.
EA, understandably defended the move, with Lindley stating in a blog post: “Now you have the choice to play your way; you can play to get new packs and content via earned coins in the game, or you can purchase coins to get more of the packs and content you want right away.”
