Planets³ exceeds Kickstarter goal

French developer Cubical Drift has announced that it’s already exceeded its initial Kickstarter funding target for Planets³ (pronounced planetscube). Project Director Michel Thomazeau thanked backers who helped the developer reach the initial $250,000 goal, saying:

We are incredibly grateful to every backer we have for believing in our dreams of a Cubical world. The kind words, encouraging each other and helping us to get featured on websites all over the world has helped us to fund. Without you guys, there would be no Planets³. The love for our game is both very heartwarming and endearing - we can’t thank you enough.

The world of Planets³ is made up of voxel-based graphics giving it a unique ‘building-block’ look. In our initial impressions we described the game as looking like a cross between Minecraft, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Frontier: Elite II.

The $250,000 funding has allowed the developer to go ahead with work on a PC release. Reaching higher funding goals will allow them to put Planets³ out on other platforms including Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can see a detailed breakdown of their funding goals on their Kickstarter page.
