Indie Game: The Movie darling and internet bull Phil Fish has allegedly been hacked.
In a tirade of tweets from his Twitter account, the creator of Fez tweeted several incensed comments, up to and including warnings to new developers to stay away, saying that Fez‘s IP is for sale, and that his company Polytron Corporation has been hacked.
A glance at Polytron’s website via Google Search reveals the site’s title as:
HACKED BY 4CHAN.ORG/V/ - ALL SJW MUST DIE
Though it’s been removed, the original attack links the incident to Fish’s defense of Zoe Quinn (developer of Depression Quest) in the aftermath of the accusations of infidelity and corruption. Polytron’s hacked page is titled ‘Five Guys’ Burgers and Fries’, referencing the five men Quinn allegedly had an affair with.
The culprit also identifies him or herself as the head moderator over at /V/, referencing a board on 4chan.org. The truthfulness of this statement cannot be verified.
What is notable, however, is that several paragraphs and a 1.5 GB file contains what seems to be Fish’s personal information. This method is generally labelled as doxxing. Doxxing, which is used by many online grey and black hat hackers, is revealing personal information on a person to the public, amplifying any harassment the victim receives.
Several theories have cropped up on the truthfulness of these events. Blogger superbrybread posits that the attack could not have been committed by 4Chan. He or she believes that several inconsistencies in the attack suggests that it was unlikely to have been members of /V/ or even an attack at all.
What is confirmed, however, is that Fish seems intent on selling Fez‘s IP. As coverage on the alleged attack continues, the causality between the sale and the doxx will be clearer, if any causality emerges at all.
