Peter Dinklage to Re-Record his Voice Work for Destiny

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone. Bungie announced last Friday that popular actor Peter Dinklage—best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones- would be giving his lines in the upcoming sci-fi opus Destiny another take.

“In fact, the Ghost dialog has already been updated for Beta.” Bungie stated in their weekly FAQ column. “It will be updated again for launch on September 9th, as well.”

Dinklage’s voice acting as Ghost- the players’ robotic guide—was quickly latched onto by fans that got a chance to play an Alpha build of Destiny. The most popular line by far has been Ghost’s William-Shatneresque exclamation of “That wizard came from the moon!” The phrase went viral, so Bungie created a run of t-shirts featuring the line. No doubt hoping to appear, well, robotic, Dinklage’s Ghost sounds more monotonous than the sing-song, humming voice of 343 Guilty Spark in Bungie’s old Halo: Combat Evolved.

Still, judging by the amount of attention Dinklage’s performance has received, it would be remiss to say that fans hated it across the board. As with any art form, video game humor often crops up in unintended places, and for the moment, we can all enjoy Dinklage’s dreary-sounding take for what it is—a well deserved laugh.

We’re anxious to see whether or not any of Dinklage’s more popular lines will make it into the final script. Destiny will be released on September 9th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, and Playstation 3.

Give a listen to Dinklage’s acting below.
