In a move that shows that Nintendo actually takes the huge fighting game community around Super Smash Bros seriously, Nintendo of America has announced on their Twitter feed that the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. is going to feature an adapter for Gamecube controllers in some capacity. Whether Nintendo plans on packaging the Gamecube controller adapter directly with the new Super Smash Bros., or selling it separately, one thing is certain; Nintendo is not only aware of the fighting game community, but is attempting to refocus its branding of Super Smash Bros. as a ‘casual’ game and hoping to appeal to the hardcore player base, at least to an extent.
The existence of this controller comes coupled with details about the ‘Super Smash Bros. Invitational’, a Wii U tournament to he held June 10 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles during E3 2014. Famed games journalist Geoff Keighley will host.
The below video shows a list of the game’s playable characters, including an Animal Crossing villager, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Fox McCloud, Greninja, Kirby, Link, Little Mac, Mario, Marth, Mega Man, Pikmin and Olimar, Pit, Rosalina and Luma, Samus, Sonic, Wii Fit Trainer, Zelda, and Zero Suit Samus and also explains the tournament in more detail. Players will be able to use Gamecube controllers at the event and will include such mainstays as Ken, Korean DJ, HugS, milktea, and many more.
